One more half day of school before vacation....I hope your summer is filled with lots of sunshine and laughter. My goals this summer are varied - I want to get Fitz, our new puppy, trained fairly quickly (thankfully I'll have help with that - Oscar, Conway and Oliver* are bound to let him know early on what works and what doesn't); I'm going to try and get myself through Type-to-Learn. I've never taken a typing class and have decided if I'm expecting kids to do it, I should give it a shot myself (the whole practice what your preach thing). I would also like to teach myself how to ride a unicycle (without breaking my leg). My oldest sister, Debbie, was great at it when we were kids and I was always a little jealous but the bike was too big and I settled for playing with the stilts and pogo stick. And of course, I'll be reading. I brought home a couple of bags of books from school and while I may not get through all of them I will try my hardest. Be sure to check back periodically to see how successful I am on all of these projects.
Always at the top of list for reading during the summer are the nominees for the Nutmeg Award. Click here for the complete list: Nutmeg Nominees.
I have read four of the books already (The Candymakers, Saving Armpit, Inside Out and Back Again and Out of My Mind) and will post reviews shortly.
Finally - I asked the fifth graders to reflect on a book they read or was read to them in their time at North Mianus and talk about the lesson they learned from the book. I took their reflections and created a video. You can find the video here.
